Sex Trafficking

Catholic Charities Community Services recognizes prostituted women as victims of sex trafficking and helps them to escape “the life” through DIGNITY (Developing Individual Growth and New Independence Through Yourself).

We reach out to sex trafficked women on the streets and in the jails. Many of our DIGNITY staff have escaped the life and know how to find these women and how to gain their trust.

Dignity
13 Average Age of Entry
There is a misconception that prostituted women choose “the life.” People don’t realize that 13 is the average age of entry. Girls are lured in, hooked on drugs and abused by those they thought cared them. They are beaten and traded, made to believe that they deserve to be prostituted.

Selling Sex
A pimp makes money by selling another person for sex. Pimps recruit or abduct victims, coerce them, beat them, bend them to their will all to make a profit—little or none of which goes to their victims.

92 percent of prostituted individuals want to leave the life, but don’t know how.
